What Happened.

You probably have noticed I have gone radio silent for the past couple of months, missing all of the news surrounding E3 in the process. A little clarification is in order.

I never meant to abandon Influential Gaming like this. I was halfway through a written review of Conker's Bad Fur Day when I stopped making my daily visits to write something. Influential Gaming is, in a word, an outlet for me. I love writing about games, and have tried for years now to make it my full time career. But it is not my career. I work at a bakery the majority of my day to get by, and have obligations to my health, home, family, and friends. Some days, it's hard for me to write anything at all, be it from writers block or finding the time. Some days, I don't have time to play a game, either for the first time or to refresh my memory. When I do find the time to write or play, I want it to be as enjoyable as possible for you. I often find myself throwing out pieces because they simply weren't fun to read, and didn't provide anything of value to you, thus squandering what little time I already have for writing.

I'm not trying to make excuses for myself, but I am trying to let you know why I fell off the site. I was overwhelmed. I don't know when I decided this or how, but I felt I had to take a break. "I'll take today off" turned into two days, a week, and so on. I felt I had to step away from it all to avoid devaluing the quality of my work. I could tell from the Conker review I was writing: I was tired. So I shifted my mentality from "I will return to the site tomorrow" to "I will return to the site when I am ready". In this down time, I managed to keep my skills sharpened writing a mediocre Twine text adventure and infrequently wrote posts in a couple of Facebook groups about games. It gave me the break from worrying about IG and keeping a consistent pace of writing that I needed.

I firmly believe that entertainment mediums should rarely show what goes on behind the scenes. Entertainment, in essence, is an illusion, scripted in some way. From all the hit boxes and skeleton animations hiding behind Mario jumping on a Koopa, to the streamer who arranges their game room to look as nice as possible for their viewers. But sometimes, like this moment, it's important to let you know what happened. This is my message to the readers I am ever so grateful to have: I hear you, and I am not going to be leaving Influential Gaming any time soon. There is more on the way, and I can't wait for you to read, watch, and hear it.

Thank you all for your patience.
